Square-Enix released a lot of new images and information earlier this week in FFXIV, focusing on the city-state of Gridania and the Garlean Empire. Gridania is a city located within the Black Shroud, and and area enveloped in forests and woodlands. It's distinctly different from both Ul'dah and and Limsa Lominsa with its overgrowth of greenery, and evokes a distinctly enclosed feeling. There's a reason they call these place the Black Shroud. You get the feeling that this place is closed off from the rest of the world, making the area feel otherworldly in nature.
For the Knot and Acorn Orchard. Knot is the central hub of Gridania, situated between the two paths that lead out of the city itself, this makes it a well traveled area, and its proximity to the chocobo stables and airship docks cements its place as the social center of the city as well.
